The Boy and The Unknown Being
Unknown Being: Get up Child.
Boy: I don’t want to.
Unknown Being: Why not?
Boy: The fall hurt too much. I don’t want to go through that pain again. If I stay here, I won’t have to.
Unknown Being: Close your eyes for a moment, Child.
Boy: Why?
Unknown Being: It is to be able to give you something.
Boy: Will it hurt?
Unknown Being: I can’t say it won’t, but I promise it will help you.
Boy: OK, I’ll close my eyes…..What is this feeling? No! This hurts much more than my fall. It’s as if I went on this voyage and the further I got, the more painful the feeling.
Unknown Being: What you felt is called regret, Child. The regret you will feel from deciding not to get back up. The longer you take to get back up, the more painful the feeling of regret.
Boy: I understand. I will get up now. Thank you for this. Who did you say you are?
Unknown Being: I didn’t. It doesn’t matter who I am, only why I’m
here. I’m here to teach you.
Boy: Then I am your student, Teacher. I’m interested in learning more.
Unknown Being: My time here with you is limited, but I can teach you one more thing before I go. Close your eyes again.
Boy: OK, my eyes are closed………What is this feeling, this is an amazing feeling. I have once again gone on this voyage, but this time the farther I got the better the feeling. What is this feeling Teacher?
Unknown Being: This is the feeling of giving.
Boy: I understand now Teacher. Teach me this ability of yours, the ability to make people feel that which has not occurred, so that I may give this to others to help them as you have helped me.
Unknown Being: You already have this ability. Do not underestimate the power of your words, Child. You see, when you closed your eyes I was simply speaking to you. And it was through the words I chose to speak that allowed me to transform in you those words into this voyage of feelings and emotion, of awareness and recognition.
Boy: But how will I know what words to choose?
Unknown Being: If your interest is indeed in helping others in this manner, this will naturally come to you. If it is forced, you will fail.
Boy: Thank you Teacher, I am confident then that I will not fail. I do have one last question. If your time with me was limited, why not teach me how to never fall instead of how to get back up?
Unknown Being: What you are asking for, Child, is to teach you perfection. Neither you nor I have enough time on this world for this to be taught. If we did, the preparation time required to achieve perfection before you did anything would be immense. You would find yourself trapped in time while the world continues around you. You see, Child, both the path of not getting back up and trying to achieve perfection before moving forward leads to accomplishing close to nothing. It is only through the stumbles and falls that you will be able to achieve that which you seek.
Boy: Then I will overcome the
fear of falling, Teacher, and will look forward to learning from those falls.
Unknown Being: And I will look forward to seeing you grow as you get up after every fall, Child, and will look forward to learning from you when we meet again.
